Vismaya is envisioned as a distinctive environment where works of art, architecture, and landscape merge to create an immersive experience rooted in historic and contemporary sensibilities. Comprising a three-acre site in Zirad, Alibag, it is conceptualized as a home where the founders share their private collection. Since its inception in 2016, the initiative has gone through numerous iterations, culminating in a structure that harmonizes its components with its natural surroundings. Courtyards that serve as aesthetic elements to modulate light and air throughout the building define Vismaya's architecture. Careful placement of openings in the walls and ceilings enhance the structure’s subtle integration with its environment. The architecture evokes both abstraction and mystery, amplifying the art-viewing experience without overwhelming the viewer.
ZAHF’s layout is meticulously crafted to foster connections between different spaces and their functions. It balances the galleries, dedicated solely to displaying works of art, with spaces also used for gatherings, discussions, and conferences. Along with visitors, the design accommodates scholars and the Founders in residential quarters, promoting a sense of community. The landscaping around Vismaya deliberately echoes the historical art within, incorporating elements that both complement and symbolize the layers of time and regions on display. Ultimately, ZAHF is a home and an intellectual haven. It provides a platform for dialogue among guests, the local community, and scholars, encouraging the generous sharing of art and culture to foster meaningful explorations of heritage in a contemporary context.
Vismaya's construction is focused on sustainability. Passive cooling and humidity control have been thoughtfully integrated throughout, eliminating the need for air conditioning. High-volume, low-speed fans and dehumidifiers regulate air circulation to ensure stable conditions for the preservation of the collection. This approach aligns with the ethos of minimal intervention and respect for both art and the environment.
